72 per cent of MPs in the South of England Support Cut in VAT

A massive 72 per cent of MPs representing constituencies in the South of England support a cut in VAT from 17.5 per cent to 5 per cent for all building repair and maintenance work according to new research carried out by ComRes on behalf of the 'Cut the VAT' Coalition.

At Bedfordshire Police Authority's Annual General Meeting held today (Friday, 16th May) members unanimously elected Peter Conniff as Chair for the fourth successive year. Penny Fletcher was also re-elected for a fourth term as Vice Chair.

Britain has 1% of the world’s population and 20% of its CCTV cameras- 4.2 million cameras in all.  Many feel safe because of this, but violent crime is rising and even the government insists that sex crimes are much higher than reported.  So what is the use of them, unless it is something more sinister.  The Royal Academy of Engineering said that lives could be put at risk by our big brother society.  This is because any system that holds huge amounts of information is open to abuse.  There is also a risk with the radio frequency microchips to be used in ID cards and passports.  They could be eavesdropped.  The government’s privacy watchdog commissioner, Richard Thomas, said the government’s CCTV mania was creating a climate of suspicion.
 

Fresh Trial expected in Stephen Lawrence murder case

The Daily Mail is still proud of itself for ignoring rules of sub judice in its coverage of the Stephen Lawrence murder case.  They printed pictures of the five white suspected of killing the black teenager, under the banner headline ‘Murderers’ Now that the rules of double jeopardy have been abolished, two of the five and one other may face a re trial.  Having learned nothing from persecuting the innocent Colin Stagg and trying to get John Hogan pilloried on the word of his wife; they have run a story, which presents us with the suspect’s guilt before the re trial.
