The title refers to an edible hot sugary concoction that is used like a wax for hair removal. Besides haircuts and waxing the lady's issues seem to evolve around men, motherhood or sex. There's Layale who loves Rabih, but Rabih is married. Nisrine who is a Muslim. Her forthcoming marriage poses a problem because she has already lost her virginity. There's Rima who is attracted to women, especially to a new lovely long black haired client. Jamale who is refusing to grow old and there is Rose who pops into the salon now and again, who spends all her time taking care for her elderly sister. Caramel is a warm and sweet film that has its moments of romance. It goes to show that life is not always easy or fair but hard-headedness, loyalty and good humor can get you through. If you like a true to life story and don't mind watching it in subtitles then you'll like Caramel. Cow moovie rating:
